The common system and organisationnal issues of security and safety : the 9/11 case
Abstract
System methodologies are designed for tackling complex systems that need to be understood through various spectacles ranging from technical to human and organisational dimensions. The need for tools inspired from these developments has reflected the complex nature of the problems faced by major hazard prevention strategies, and created needs for cross-disciplinary tools, from engineering, human and social sciences. Security seems to be a field where the same features of complexity are exhibited and this paper will focus on the impact of the organisational and human factors on security, with a systemic perspective. With the help of an analysis of the official report of thé 11th September attack; the article will stress thr common issues expressing thr need for a System approach to security.
