Assessment of the Fire Hazard Presented by a Burning Pool of Toluene Diisocyanate (TDI)
Abstract
Large amounts of toluene diisocyanate (TDI) are stored and handled in plante where polyurethane foams are manufactured. The material as such is not easily ignitable as shown by usual lab scale test methods. However, a fire developing with other materials could involve TDI. The burning characteristics of TDI are comparable to those of other combustible liquids like mineral oil.
